Young people living with hepatitis and/or HIV worldwide experience many of the same issues within the hepatitis and HIV responses. To foster meaningful conversations and gather insights from young people living with hepatitis and/or HIV, the World Hepatitis Alliance (WHA) and Y+ Global have partnered to organise a joint webinar. The event will explore the gaps, challenges and solutions for young people living with hepatitis and/or HIV and share stories of young people leading the change in their local communities. Following the webinar, WHA and Y+ Global will take the findings from the discussion to develop new advocacy materials specifically for young people.

We have, as a speaker, the distinguished Prof. Sook-Bin Woo from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine. She has been a Professor at the Harvard School of Dental Medicine and Harvard Medical School since 2008. Prof. Woo is the Graduate Program Director for the Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology specialty training program. She has served on the Fellowship Committee and Executive Council of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and on the board of the American Academy of Oral Medicine, where she was President of the Board from 2014 to 2015. She has published numerous scholarly papers, book chapters and a textbook and is reviewer for many journals. She is a much sought-after speaker at many national and international conferences and teaches many courses. Prof. Woo has received the National Research Service Award from the NIH, the American Cancer Society Career Development Award, and the Distinguished Senior Faculty Award from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine, among other honors. In this webinar, Dr. Buckley presents the sex differences in dementia, focusing on diagnosis, tauopathy, and implications for clinical trials.This presentation highlights the state of play in the literature with regard to sex differences in prevalence and incidence rates of dementia. Dr. Buckley touches upon the well characterized issue of women being underdiagnosed with dementia due to the fact that they perform much better than men on many neuropsychological tests. She presents her work that has shown consistently, and across many independent cohorts, that women show elevated levels of tauopathy in the brain relative to men. After demonstrating these sex differences in these clinical AD-related outcomes, she turns to the question of whether they might be driven by sex steroid hormones or the X chromosome. She ends the talk by touching upon the reasons why we care about sex differences, particularly from a clinical trials perspective. When sick children arrive at primary health care facilities, it is critical that they are appropriately screened, diagnosed, managed, and if needed, referred for urgent care without delay. Clinical signs alone do not detect all severe illness in children. For health care providers to make a correct diagnosis, they must be equipped with the right tools, including access to pulse oximetry and clinical decision support systems. In many countries, these critical tools are not available, not functioning properly, or providers lack appropriate training. There is also no clear global guidance to help countries in choosing the best devices, nor is information available on their cost-effectiveness or suitability in primary care.Between 2019 and 2024, the Tools for Integrated Management of Childhood Illness (TIMCI) initiative, led by PATH in collaboration with a consortium of partners and funded by Unitaid, worked together with the governments of India, Kenya, Senegal, and Tanzania to improve access to critical tools that help frontline health workers identify and appropriately manage children who are severely ill. This work included large-scale, multi-country, mixed-method evaluation conducted to address evidence gaps and inform national and international decision-making on scale-up of pulse oximetry and clinical decision support algorithms.Join us to review the cross-country results, interpretations, as well as key takeaways from the TIMCI studies, which can be helpful to decision-makers and implementers in further assessing national and global strategies for effectively embedding pulse oximetry and CDSAs as part of wider efforts to strengthen quality of care.
